What is modern and who are The Modernists?!!

Made with local Black Isle garden apples from the 2023 harvest,  the juice was pressed straight into old oak casks which don't impart too much oak any more. On paper, it was a fairly regular cider destined for a blend but when Ryan tasted it, he instantly decided it was too good to go into a bigger blend. The only issue was it didn't have a story (unlike all his other 750s) so it sat in the cask for another couple of months until he started receiving those cider competition emails. Over to Ryan to tell the story in his own words

"The last few years most have introduced a category called "modern cider" which is basically for non bittersweet led ciders (It always struck me as weird incidentally why you'd need to separate them and also who gets to decide what is and isn't modern?). Anyway, I thought that the term "modern" doesn't always sit comfortably in the world of cider where tradition is such a key part of the story and it made me think of Quadrophenia and that whole mod/modernist vibe, progressive and kind of iconoclastic. Values that I think are sort of central to the Scottish cider scene. We've no cider tradition anyway so we're all modernists!"
